Sacramental Preparation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

This Sacrament, also known as the Sacrament of Penance or First Confession, is usually celebrated when a child is around seven years old. At St Joseph's when a baptised Catholic child is in Year 3 they begin to prepare to receive this Sacrament. Below is a list of dates when you and your child are invited to work together to prepare for this important Sacrament.

The Sacrament of the Eucharist

First Holy Communion, or the Sacrament of the Eucharist, is a ceremony held in the Catholic Church. Catholics believe this event to be very important as the Eucharist occupies a central role in Catholic theology and practise. The sacrament of First Communion is an important tradition for Catholic families and individuals. For Catholics, Holy Communion is the third of seven sacraments received; it takes place after baptism and first confession (the Sacrament of Penance).

The Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is a rite of initiation carried out through anointing, the laying on of hands, and prayer, for the purpose of bestowing the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is the fourth of seven sacraments.
