Autumn 2

Our Autumn 2 topics are 'Amazing Autumn' & 'Christmas'

RE

We follow the official RE curriculum for Catholic Primary Schools - Discerning disciples. This half term our topic is 'Prophecy and Promise'.

The Prophecy and Promise branch introduces young children to foundational concepts of God's care, love, and special messages through age-appropriate, relational themes:

  • Being Known and Loved: Children explore how God makes and knows people personally, linking the idea of being called or chosen with their own lived experience of family and affection.
  • Simple Bible Stories & Expectation: Rather than complex theological prophecy, Nursery lessons focus on simple narratives of promise—such as God choosing Mary (the Annunciation)—emphasising that God keeps promises and brings good things like the birth of Jesus.
  • Ways of Knowing: Guided by the RED (To Know You More Clearly) framework, children engage through the three pillars:
    • Understand: Hearing simple stories about God's special message and figures like Mary.
    • Discern: Reflecting gently on how it feels to be promised something special or cared for.
    • Respond: Expressing wonder, thankfulness, or calm reflection through play, art, and simple prayer.
