Prayer & Liturgy

Some of the Year 1 children led our prayer session, reflecting on those living in poverty and the importance of spreading hope. As part of this, they invited the class to write short prayers on post-it notes about hope and how we can share it in our world.

The children then placed their prayers onto our world to symbolically spread their messages. Well done, Year 1—what a beautiful and thoughtful gesture!

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. During Lent we are asked to try to change, to become better versions of ourselves. We can do this by trying to be more like Jesus.

Today our Liturgy Leaders planned and delivered a child-led liturgy for Ash Wednesday. They thought carefully about the aspects of worship gather, listen, respond and go forth and planed a reverent celebration of the word.

They asked the rest of the school to think about how during Lent they are going to do three things: to spend more time in prayer so that we can get to know Jesus better, to fast from something that is keeping us from being the kind of person that Jesus wants us to be and to help those who are in need. Pray, fast and almsgiving.

Our Year 2 prayer leaders this week led a beautiful liturgy all about having trust and belief in Jesus. Well done!

Well done to our Year 6 Liturgy Group who planned, prepared and delivered a fantastic celebration of the Word based on the Jubilee, pilgrims of hope. The children had thought carefully about the Scripture they wanted to use and reflective activities for their fellow peers to complete. The jars of hope were a lovely way to bring the class together to think and reflect on their hopes for this year. They even had a creative member of Year 6 who made bracelets for the whole class as a reminder of the jubilee year. What a fantastic job and reverently delivered. Well done Year 6.

The start of our whole school retreat 'We will go out as pilgrims of Hope' with Dan and Emily has got anyone ready and excited for the day. All at St Joseph's are filled with hope and ready for action. One Life Music

Year 1 children took the lead in a special prayer and liturgy for the class. They gathered everyone together to share the story of The Lost Sheep, guiding their friends in a thoughtful reflection. To close, the prayer leaders invited everyone to join in singing a hymn together as a whole class. Well done to our wonderful young liturgy leaders!

The liturgy leaders in Year 2 this week planned and delivered a lovely prayer and liturgy all about the parable 'The Lost Sheep'. Children thought carefully about what Jesus' message was and reflected upon how God loves and cares for us all just like the shepherd cares for his sheep. The children came up with some wonderful I wonder questions about the parable and sang beautifully. Amazing work Year 2!

Our Year 1 children led a heartfelt and inspiring Prayer and Liturgy service centred around the theme of kindness. They shared the story of The Good Samaritan, reflecting on its meaning and discussing how it makes them feel. As part of their thoughtful preparation, the children organised a special activity: each child drew a heart and then symbolically shared their love by giving it to someone else in their class. It was a truly touching and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

A group of children in Year 4 led the rest of the class in a child-led prayer and liturgy worship this morning. Their theme was the Baptism of Jesus and all the children showed great reverence in their quiet, thoughtful prayer time. They thought about how God could be pleased with them today. Well done, Year 4!

A group of children in Year 5 planned, led and evaluated a reflective and reverent Prayer & Liturgy service for their class. They chose to have their classmates standing around the room focussing on the focal point, a Crucifix which was surrounded by lights and candles. Their theme for the prayer and liturgy was Jesus the Light of the World and peace. The Liturgy Leaders chose to read and perform the Parable of Jesus calming the storm to demonstrate how Jesus brings us peace. Their task was to sing the hymn 'Light of the World' and to colour a candle reflecting on how Jesus brings us peace and how we can bring peace to others. The rest of the class were given a 'Go Forth' message to think about how they can bring peace and light to others.

Nursery learnt about the importance of Remembrance Day in their own prayer and liturgy service. They had a very peaceful prayer and liturgy time where they reflected and prayed for the people who had fought for us during the war and listened to the last post. They made paper poppies and finger paint poppies to help them remember all of the soldiers who had died. The children helped their teacher to get ready for the liturgy by selecting the red prayer cloth, placing leaves and a wreath on their focal point.

Year 2 prayer leaders planned and led the class in a beautiful liturgy this with a focus on Remembrance Day. The children took part in a reflection as well as spontaneous prayer.

Year 6 Liturgy Leaders planned, led and evaluated a reverent prayer and liturgy service today. They spent time in reflective prayer thinking about people who have died. They offered their prayers and intentions to God. As part of their liturgy, they evaluated their liturgy thinking about what they would do differently next time.
