Visits

Year 6 visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and Basilica of St Chad, Birmingham each year.

The visit to the Cathedral is seen as a pilgrimage, a grace filled encounter with the Lord in a particular holy place which he has blessed and set apart.  The aim of the visit is to give the children a deeper insight into their faith, and to enlarge and deepen their understanding of what it means to be Catholic.

Cathedral Visits focus in particular on

  • Devotion to St Chad, Patron of the Diocese, at the Shrine of his relics
  • The centrality of the sacraments, especially Confirmation, in the life of faith and the ministry of the bishop as Christ’s representative and the successor of the apostles.
  • The diocese as the ‘ particular church’ and St Chad’s Cathedral as its Mother Church

A secondary aspect of the visit is to help the children appreciate the cathedral as an important part of our Midlands Catholic historical and artistic heritage.
