Phonics

At St. Joseph’s, we follow the Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics scheme to support our students' reading, spelling and writing development.

Spellings

In Year 1, students engage in daily phonics lessons that cover a wide variety of spelling patterns.
 

Two to three mornings a week, children will come into school and practice the common exception words they need to master by the end of Year 1.

Each week, spelling lists will be stapled into students’ planners. Please review these words with your child at home.
