Spring 2

Guided Reading –  This half term we will be reading Iron Man together in class. We will work on developing our comprehension skills by focusing on Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation and Summarising.

Religious Education (R.E.) This half term we will be focusing on Lent and exploring why this is significant in our faith. We will be exploring change through a variety of Bible stories.  

Writing – Our focus story in writing for this half term is the The Tin Forest. We will be focusing on setting descriptions and how these enhance our writing. Also this half term, we will be focusing on writing non-fiction persuasive letters towards the end of the half term

Maths The focus in maths this half term will be money and time. We will look at conversions between pounds and pence while also using money to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Children will also be challenged to explore word problems, using knowledge learnt in lessons to find answers.

Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar – This half term, we will be focusing on grammar and punctuation that will help improve our setting descriptions. We will do this by using expanded noun phrases, prepositions, fronted adverbials and present perfect form. There will be weekly spellings that children should practice at home.

 

Spellings

We will have a spelling test on a Wednesday.

The spellings for each week will be glued in your child’s planner each week.

Mental Maths -

This half term we will focus on: Multiplication and Division. The children will be reinforcing their knowledge of the 3, times tables and look at developing understanding and fluency in the 4 and 8 times tables, which will support the mental maths focus on knowing and calculating these facts with speed and accuracy. Please help your child to practise these at home. The children will apply their times tables knowledge to support their learning with division. They will be given the opportunity to solve problems using multiplication and division. The children will continue to use Times Tables Rock Stars and Freckle to support their learning.

Geography - The focus for Geography this half term is water, weather and climate.

We will be looking at where earths water comes from, rain and why the UK has such wild weather.

Science This half terms topic and focus is light and dark. We will be exploring key questions about light: what light is, how we can see objects, the difference between night and day and how shadows are formed.

ComputingDuring this half term in computing the children will be learning about stop-frame animation. This will include creating pictures and using their learning to develop skills when we make our own stop frame videos!

French – In French, the children will be learning how to respond to common classroom instructions – this will occur through games. Also, children will be learning the vocabulary for different classroom items. Finally, the children will be learning that every noun is either masculine or feminine.

Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE) –

The children will learn about God’s design for creating new life through an understanding of menstruation, fertility, conception, foetal development in the womb and childbirth. They will also develop their Religious Understanding exploring the nature of God’s call to love others. The children will study and reflect imaginatively on the story of Zacchaeus’ conversion and explore ways in which they can hear God’s call in their lives and learn about coping with pressure and being able to identify it in its many guises. The children will use role play to explore scenarios to gain deeper understanding.

MusicIndividual skills to be developed on each instrument. Sound technique will be reinforced in each discipline, from percussion (drum kit), to keyboard (correct hand position and fingering).

Physical Education (P.E.)This half term children will be practicing skills for tennis! As well as tennis, the children will be learning about dance – rhythmic moving to music in sequence with partners and individually!
