Summer 1

English

 

In our English lessons we will be using The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to write a portal story and a set of instructions.

 

We will be working on writing dialogue and using possessive pronouns in our story and using imperative verbs in our instructions.

 

We are also working on our handwriting to earn our pen licences!

RE

Our units this half term for RE are Easter and Pentecost. We will be learning about these key events in the time of Jesus and looking at their significance in the Liturgical year.

 

Spellings for Spring 2

 

Spellings are glued into planners on a Thursday to be tested the following Thursday. Please encourage the children to learn the letter patterns and practise their handwriting at the same time.

Guided Reading

 

In Guided Reading this half term, we are studying the novel How to Train Your Dragon. We will be answering comprehension questions based on these using our VIPERS scheme. Our main focus this half term is vocabulary.

Maths

In our maths lessons this half term we are learning about:

 

  • Decimals
  • Money

 

In Year 4, we work very hard on learning our times tables ready for the multiplication check in the summer term. So, it is very important that we know every times table fact fluently.

Please encourage your child to regularly practise their times tables using TT Rockstars or timestables.co.uk

 

 

Science

 

In Science, we are studying Electrical Currents. The children are learning about the components of an electrical circuits, drawing and recognising them as well as knowing what insulators and conductors are.

 

History

 

In History this half-term, we are learning all about the Anglo-Saxons, Scots and Vikings. We will be looking at the different kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon Britain, how the Vikings invaded and the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings.

 

French

 

In French we will be using the concept of the Eurovision Song Contest to inspire pupils when writing original songs in French, using vocabulary from years 3 and 4, including rhyming sounds. Learning additional music vocabulary and expanding their knowledge of the French names of European countries. Exploring new sentence constructions to talk about playing an instrument and expressing likes and dislikes about different styles of music.

 

 

 

Music

 

We are learning to play an advanced level of World Music percussion styles will be played, using Djembe, Samba and Asian drums.    Authentic African patterns (IBO) will be played.    

 

PE

 

This half term in PE we are studying cricket and tag rugby. We are working on team game skills, following rules and safety as well as increasing the level of difficulty.

 

PSHE

 

We will be learning about finance this half term, as well as covering British Values and the Monarch through exploration of the Coronation of King Charles III. We will also be studying emotional wellbeing and lifecycles in this half term's PSHE. We will be continuing our learning about the human life cycle and what we can expect as we grow up.

 

Computing

 

We are going to be looking at photo editing.
