Spring 2

English

In our English lessons we will be using Firework Maker's Daughter to write a journey tale and an informal letter.

We will also be preparing one of these pieces of writing to perform.

We are learning how to use prepositional phrases, subordinate clauses and possessive pronouns in our writing as well as working on our handwriting to earn our pen licences! 

RE

Our units this half term for RE are Lent and Holy Week. We will be learning about Lent through study of the Beatitudes and Jesus' teachings of forgiveness. We will then learn about the key events of Holy Week and study Jesus' trial and reasons for this.

Spellings for Spring 2

Spellings are glued into planners on a Thursday to be tested the following Thursday. Please encourage the children to learn the letter patterns and practise their handwriting at the same time.

Guided Reading

In Guided Reading this half term, we are studying the novel Charlotte's Web. We will be answering comprehension questions based on these using our VIPERS scheme. Our main focus this half term is vocabulary.

Maths

In our maths lessons this half term we are learning about:

• Fractions
• Time

In Year 4, we work very hard on learning our times tables ready for the multiplication check in the summer term. So, it is very important that we know every times table fact fluently.

Please encourage your child to regularly practise their times tables using TT Rockstars or timestables.co.uk

Science

In Science, we are studying Ecosystems. The children are learning about the diets of animals, what an ecosystem is and how to construct and interpret a food chain/web.

Geography

In Geography this half term, we are studying Natural Resources, where we are learning all about the world's natural resources, comparing the resources in different countries and understanding how a circular economy works.

French

Learning phrases to describe the weather and compass points and using our knowledge of numbers to 100 to say and write sentences about the weather in French. We will also have a French science lesson all about the water cycle.

Music

We are learning to play class composition pieces and to be able to improvise.

PE

We are studying tennis and multi skills, working on balance, focus and team skills as well as following rules.

PSHE

Studying emotional wellbeing and lifecycles in this half term's PSHE. We will be looking at the human life cycle and what we can expect as we grow up.

Computing

We are going to be looking at the importance of data logging, what data we can record and how we can do this on a computer.
