Photographs of our Learning

To help us celebrate the Feast of St Joseph, we had great fun learning and practising Circus Skills.

In Design and Technology, we explored structures and built our own 3D frame shapes.

World Book Day 2024

Hands On Science came to work with us to help us learn about how chemical elements react to heat to produce different colour flames

We visited STM and took part in an Art Workshop. We learned more about Vanessa Gardiner and how to use different techniques to create watercolour pictures. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring different methods to improve our painting and colour skills.

We had a visit from local author, Ian Billings, as part of our World Book Day and enjoyed learning about how to be better writers

In RE we have dramatised ideas around temptation when thinking about Jesus being in the desert and thinking about how we are tempted to make bad choices.

In February, we visited Symphony Hall in Birmingham to hear and see the CBSO perform. We really enjoyed the variety of music and learned about the different parts that make up an orchestra.

In RE we explored Jesus parables through drama. Some of us are very dramatic!

We explored Crumble kits in our physical Computing unit of work. We had great fun controlling lights and motors.

We welcomed in the New Year and thought about the visit of the Wisemen at Epiphany

Our end of term champion readers received golden coins for reaching their targets and chose books from our vending machine. Well done Year 5!

We participated in zoom call with the National Archive to further our knowledge of the Domesday Book.

We have made Bambinelli figures to be blessed at Mass on The third Sunday of Advent.

In Maths, we used the story book 365 Penguins to inspire us to learn about calendar dates, Fibonacci numbers and 3D shapes.

In Design and Technology, we tasted, designed and created our own soups.

We want to look after our local environment. We participated in a litter pick to make Darlaston a tidier place.

We love Reading in Year 5. We achieved our Reading Targets and chose a book each from our school Book Vending Machine using our golden coins.

We have been learning “Heads, shoulders, knees and toes” in French.

We have used our Fieldwork skills to complete a traffic survey in two different locations near to school. We recorded the different modes of transport we could see around school and created graphs to represent our data.

In Art, we have been learning about Typography and have been experimenting with different fonts and illustrations. We learned about Typography artists like Louise Fili and tried our best to design our own fonts and illustrations about where we live

He celebrated the Harvest by dressing in bright colours to brighten everyone’s day. We went to Mass and thanked God for the Harvest and we thought about the areas in the world where people struggle to have enough to eat.

We learned all about Carbon Monoxide and how to stay safe at home.

We have been learning to program using Microbits.

September 2023 - STEM workshop - we designed, made and tested rocket powered cars. They reach speeds of of 50 mph.

September 2023. Archaeology In Mind - We took part in an archaeological dig on our school field. We found rather a lot of evidence of industrial activity.
