Year 3 Times table challenge! The children will be working on times tables until we finish for the summer break. Please encourage your child to use this website at home to help develop the fluent understanding in preparation for the Year 4 times table check. THERE WILL BE PRIZES FOR CHILDEN WHO WORK HARD TO LEARN THESE!!! The children know how to navigate the website, so they can show you how well they are doing!
Welcome to Year 3!
We hope you find the information on this page and in the links below helpful.
The members of staff are Mr Black, Mrs Beech, Mrs Cornes and Mrs Rasool.
Children are required to be at school between 8.40 and 8.55am each morning.
Our PE days are:
Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning: PE with Mr Davies.
As PE will take place on Monday afternoons, the children will go home in their PE kits. Please ensure their kits are back in school ready for the next PE lesson. The PE kit for ST Joseph’s is a red round-neck top, navy shorts and pumps/trainers.
Reading Books
The children need to bring their reading books into school every day as we will have some quiet reading time every morning when the children arrive. Please continue to read with your children at home and feel free to use the planners to communicate any messages of concerns to the Year 3 team.
Reading at Home Expectations in Year 3
Children need to read aloud to you on a daily basis for 10-15 minutes to:
- develop their fluency
- give you the opportunity to explain the meaning of new words
- to check understanding by asking questions
When your child completes a book, they will take a quiz in school on our Accelerated Reader platform. This tests their knowledge and understanding of what they have read. The scores are recorded in the reading logs.
During the term, the children will have the opportunity to work towards their reading target and get a golden coin for the book machine.
We recommend that you read aloud to your child as much as possible, preferably a more challenging book that they would not necessarily choose or be able to read themselves.
