Spring 2

Phonics

This term, children will be focusing on Set 2 and Set 3 sounds, building their confidence in reading and spelling. They will practice blending sounds to read words and using them in their writing. 

 

Maths

In this unit, students explore the fundamental concepts of addition and subtraction, developing their understanding of how numbers combine and separate. They will use concrete objects, drawings, and number sentences to represent simple addition and subtraction problems. Through practical activities, they will learn to recognise number bonds, count on and back, and understand the relationship between addition and subtraction. This unit builds a strong foundation for mental arithmetic and problem-solving skills.

  • Counting in 2’s and 10’s

 

 

English

This term, children will be learning to write simple sentences using capital letters and full stops. They will also explore how to use conjunctions to extend their sentences and make their writing more interesting.

🏠 Hansel and Gretel

👽 Aliens Love Underpants

 

Through these stories, children will develop their vocabulary, storytelling skills, and confidence in writing. 🚀✨

 

History

In this unit, students will explore the history of their local area, learning about significant people, places, and events from the past. They will compare how their community has changed over time and discover historical landmarks, buildings, and traditions. Through stories, pictures, and visits, students will develop an understanding of how history shapes their surroundings and begin to think like young historians. This unit fosters a sense of identity and connection to their local heritage.

 

 

Science

In this unit, students will explore the world of plants, learning about their basic needs, parts, and life cycle. They will identify common plants and trees, observe how they grow, and understand the importance of water, sunlight, and soil. Through hands-on activities, students will investigate different types of plants, compare their features, and learn how they contribute to the environment. This unit encourages curiosity about nature and develops early scientific observation skills.

 

 

PE

This term, children will be developing their gymnastics and tennis skills over the next seven weeks.

 

🤸‍♂️ Gymnastics – They will practice balancing, jumping, rolling, and creating simple sequences.

 

🎾 Tennis Skills – Children will learn basic racket skills, hand-eye coordination, and simple rallying techniques.

 

These activities will help improve their strength, coordination, and confidence in movement. 🌟

 

Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday.

 

RE

Lent - This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of Lent as a time of change and of growing to be more like Jesus by following his example. In the unit the children will explore various aspects of Jesus’ message and ways in which Christians can apply these to real life situations.

 

Holy Week- This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the important events of Holy Week and how they tell of the last days of Jesus’ life on earth. The unit focuses on Palm Sunday, the Last Supper and the Stations of the Cross.

 

 

Homework

📚 Reading: Spend 15 minutes each night enjoying a book at home. This will help build your confidence and love for reading!

🔢 Numbots: Have fun practicing your number skills with just 10 minutes per week on Numbots. A little practice goes a long way!
