English

 

In our English lessons this half term we are reading:

 

     

 

During these writing units we will be writing a letter and a story.

 

Maths

In our maths lessons this half term we are learning about:

 

  • Time
  • Multiplication and division
  • Measure – capacity, volume and mass

 

 

RE 

 

In RE this half term we will be learning about:

 

- Our Church where children will develop their understanding of what it means to belong to God’s Family. We will focus on the roles of the parish and people with special responsibilities. Children will hear about the origins of the Church through the lives of the Apostles.

- The Mass where they will develop their understanding of the structure of the Mass and what is taking place. We will focus on how we see Christ present when we gather, in the Word and in the Eucharist.

 

   

 

 

Science

 

Our Science unit for this half term is 'Scientists' where children will learn about a range of scientists and what they do. These will include:

History

 

In History this half term, we are learning about ‘Queens’ where children will develop their understanding the role of a Monarch. They will learn about the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria, as well as compare similarities and differences between them.

 

 

 

 

Music 

 

This half term children will sing and provide their own accompaniment to songs. Songs from throughout the year will be re-visited and improved using instrumental accompaniment and enhanced vocal skills.

 

 

Computing

 

During this half term, our computing unit is ‘Programming Quizzes’. Children will understand that sequences of commands have an outcome and make predictions based on their learning. They will use and modify designs to create their own quiz questions in ScratchJr.

 

 

PSHE

 

During PSHE this half term we will be focusing on:

  • British Values
  • The communities we live in
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Needs and wants
  • Keeping safe online
  • Transition into KS2

 

 

PE

 

In PE this half term children will be doing Athletics developing recognised techniques for running, jumping and throwing to increase speed, agility and strength. Children will also be doing multi-skills. Here they will develop their co-operation, team work and social skills through a wide variety of different physical games. 

At the end of the half term, Year 2 will be having a few more swimming sessions. A reminder will be sent out nearer the time of the dates.

 

 

DT

 

This half term, year 2 will be doing textiles where they will be using different joining techniques such as gluing, stapling and sewing to create a puppet.
