❄️ Snow Day Fun for Year 1 ❄️
What a lovely surprise to wake up to snow! As school is closed today, we hope you can enjoy a little extra time together. Snow days don’t happen very often, so please make the most of it, have lots of fun, and enjoy this special day while it lasts!
If it’s safe to do so, here are a few easy learning activities your child can have a go at at home:
🔢 Maths Task
Count snowballs, stones, or steps in the snow. Can your child make groups of 2, 5, or 10? Can they add two groups together and tell you the total?
🔤 Phonics Task
Use a stick or your finger to write phonics sounds or tricky words in the snow. Can your child read the sounds and say a word that uses them?
✏️ Writing Task
After playing outside, ask your child to write a simple sentence about the snow, such as “I like the snow.” or “The snow is cold.” Encourage capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.
💻 Numbots Task
Please log into Numbots and complete around 15 minutes of games to practise number bonds and build maths confidence.
Wrap up warm, stay safe, and most importantly have lots of fun — we don’t get snow very often! We look forward to seeing everyone back at school soon.
