Snow Day Fun For Year 6!
Year 6,what a lovely surprise to wake up to snow! As school is closed, Miss Maher and Mrs Cornes hope you can spend some special time together. Snow days are very exciting and don't happen very often, so please enjoy them, have lots of fun, and make lots of happy memories. βοΈβοΈ
If it is safe to go outside, here are some simple learning activities your child can do at home:
π’ Maths Task
Measure the depth of the snow in at least three different locations. Record the measurements in centimetres and calculate the range and mean average. Challenge your child to explain which measurement best represents the overall snowfall and why.
π Reading / Spelling Task
Ask your child to read for at least 20 minutes (a book, article, or non-fiction text). Then choose 5 ambitious words from the text, find their meanings, and use them correctly in sentences.
βοΈ Writing Task
Write a descriptive paragraph about the snow using a range of Year 6 grammar features, such as:
Expanded noun phrases
Fronted adverbials
Figurative language (similes, metaphors, personification)
Or write a descriptive snow poem!
π» Maths Fluency Task
Log into TT Rock Stars and complete at least 20 minutes of practice to keep multiplication skills sharp.
π RE Task
Research the 3 gifts that the Wise Men took for the Baby Jesus and the meaning behind them.
π Science Task
Do some research about weather and find out some fun facts. Where has the deepest snowfall been? How cold do temperatures need to reach to snow? Which country has the most snow?
Please stay safe, wrap up warm, and enjoy this snowy day together. Make the most of it — we don’t get snow very often! We look forward to seeing everyone back at school soon.

Children are required to be at school between 8.40 and 8.55am each morning.
Our PE days are:
Wednesday and Friday
Please ensure children have the correct PE kit on these days.
Reading Books
The children need to bring their reading books into school every day as we have quiet reading time every morning. The more they read - the more quizzes they can complete. Please continue to read with your children at home.
