Gardener Speaker visits school
Mon 22 May 2023Last week, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a gardener visitor in school who spoke to them about growing vegetables, fruits and plants at home. All children then planted their own pea plant that they will able to take home and eat when they have grown.

Y2 Art & Science in the garden
Mon 22 May 2023Last week, Year 2 combined their Science and Art lessons and enjoyed sitting in the school garden in the sunshine to sketch some of the plants and trees.

Year 4 First Holy Communion
Sat 20 May 2023Congratulations to our Year 4 children who received their First Holy Communion today. May it be the first of many times you receive Jesus in the Blessed Eucharist. God bless you all.
Also, a big thank you to our fabulous school staff for showing their support to our children who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated staff team.

Y4 parents join their children for outdoor prayer time
Fri 19 May 2023Year 4 parents joined their children for a lovely outdoor prayer service this afternoon. They reflected on Pope Francis' letter 'Laudato Si' and our responsibility to look after God's creation. As part of their prayer time everyone wrote a pledge to Live Simply and took home a reminder of things we can do to care for our world. The children also enjoyed showing their parents around our lovely new garden.

Y2 visit to Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Fri 19 May 2023As part of their curriculum in Science and Geography, Year 2 had a brilliant time today at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. They enjoyed learning about the different plants that grow in different parts of the world and experiencing what it might feel like in the rainforest

Y3 Ancient Egyptians Day
Fri 19 May 2023Year 3 had a fantastic History day in school yesterday learning about life in Ancient Egypt. They particularly enjoyed learning about the process of mummification

Year One - learning about endangered animals
Wed 17 May 2023Today, Year One had a fantastic online workshop with a charity called 'Born Free' - a global animal charity saving tigers, elephants, and many more endangered species. They work to combat illegal wildlife trade, protect habitats, rescue and rehabilitate animals. Born Free's mission is to ensure a future where animals thrive in their natural environments. Year one asked lots of wonderful questions and some of the children were inspired to work with wildlife charities when they are older. Well done Year One!

Year 6 Residential to Whitemoor Lakes
Wed 17 May 2023Year 6 have had a fabulous time at Whitemoor Lakes on their 3 day residential visit. They enjoyed icebreaker games and completed: sailing, archery, raft building, fencing, climbing, night line and traverse on the high ropes. They also enjoyed a night walk and a campfire, where they got to toast marshmallows and eat them as smores. The children worked together brilliantly in teams, encouraging each other and pushing themselves to overcome their fears! Their behaviour was exemplary throughout their time away! Well done, Year 6 - we are very proud of you!

Y3 learning about water with Severn Trent
Mon 15 May 2023Year 3 have been learning how a water treatment plant works. Chris, a teacher from Severn Trent Water came into school today to explain how our drains can be blocked by people putting different objects down their toilets and sinks! The children learned that they should only put the three Ps down their toilet - Paper, Pee and Poo!

Y3 & 4 compete in local benchball tournament
Fri 12 May 2023Yesterday some of our wonderful Year 3 and 4 children represented St Joseph's in a benchball tournament at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy in Pelsall as part of the school games initiative. They showed good skills and excellent team spirit throughout and even managed to win 5/7 of their matches! Go St. Joseph's!
