English

 

In our English lesson we will be writing a diary based on our model text. 

We are learning how to use expanded noun phrases, similes, widen our adjective vocabulary and create suspense in our writing.

Guided Reading

 

In Guided Reading, we are studying the books  'The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me' and 'The Enormous Crocodile' by Roald Dahl. We will be looking at characters and themes in the book but also answering comprehension questions using our VIPERS scheme. 

Spellings

 

Fifteen weekly spellings are given to the children on a Tuesday. These are glued into their planners so they can practise them at home as part of their homework. There is a spelling test each Tuesday. Children are encouraged to learning all spellings. These include repeated practice of the Year 3 & 4 statutory spellings. 

Maths

 

In our maths lessons this half term we are learning about:

 

  • Place Value
  • Numbers to 1000 
  • Addition and Subtraction 
  • Quick recall of the  3, 4 and 8, times-tables (as well as the 2, 5, and 10 times-tables the children have already learned in Year 1 and 2) 

RE

 

In RE we will be learning about our School Saint – Saint Joseph and our Class Saint – Saint Anthony of Padua.

We will be also be learning the following units:

Unit A - Belonging - We gather as God's Family

Unit E - We listen to God's word at Mass

Science

 

This half term we will learning about Rocks, Fossils and Soils. 

 

In this unit the children will be learning the following:

  • The difference between natural and man-made rocks.
  • How to group rocks according to their properties.
  • Investigate the permeability of different rocks. 
  • How soils are made.
  • How fossils are formed. 
  • The paleontologist Mary Anning.

History

 

In history we will be learnig about Prehistoric Britain.

 

We will be going back in time millions of years to learn all about the earliest humans! As well as exploring the different species of human and how they migrated out of Africa, we will learn all about the clues that help us know more about the distant past. We will look closely at the Stone Age and its three different periods and learn about some of the animals that roamed the earth during this time. We will be learning about how archaeologists and historians study objects that they find from the past to give us clues about how people lived and also learning all about Skara Brae, one of the best preserved Neolithic settlements in Britain. 

Computing

 

In computing we will be learning the following:

  • Coding

PSHE

 

In our PSHE lessons we will cover the following:

 

  • School Rules and Expectations 
  • British Values including Democracy, Rule of Law and Tolerance
