English:

I would like you to watch the video below which will read the story The Tiny Seed to you.

The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle || An INSPIRING Adventure! [CC] - YouTube

When you have listened to and read the story, I would like you to think about what helps a plant to grow. Please use your knowledge of the two stories we have learnt about on growing and planting – Sam plants a sunflower and The Tiny Seed.

I would like you to write simple sentences to explain what a seed needs to grow. For example,

A seed needs water. / A seed needs sunshine. / A seed needs soil.

Remember to use your phonics to help you spell and write your sentences, as well as finger spaces between words, capital letters at the beginning, and a full stop at the end of each sentence.

Phonics:

Please watch the RWI video clips below about how to read Green Word Time 1.6 words and how to spell them for writing. We have placed an exercise book in your home learning packs, which will help you to write the words in so you can see your progress and hard work.

There is no spelling video today but maybe you could have a go at writing some of the words mentioned in the reading video – quiz, quit, fox, chop etc.

Maths:

Today we are going to be learning about the mathematical concept of Capacity. I would like you to work through the power point below and begin to develop your understanding of what capacity is and the key vocabulary – full, half-full, empty, nearly full and nearly empty.

Once you have done this, I would like you to have a go at creating drinks for the monsters using cups and water (you can use milkshake if you like!)

See if you can make drinks for the monsters that show a full drink, a half-full drink, an empty drink, a nearly full drink and a nearly empty drink.

If you can, take some photos of your drinks and send them to us – we would love to share the great things you are doing at home!

Topic:

Today for our last topic lesson on growing and planting, I would like you to have a go at planting a seed of your choice using the video clip below which will talk you through the simple steps. Some seeds you could grow that are easy and fast growing are sunflowers, beans or cress. Many of these seeds you can buy from the supermarket. I would also suggest using a plastic/paper cup to plant your seeds if you do not have a small enough plant pot.

You may wish to plant another type of seed and watch that grow over time – it is completely your choice. J

Try to remember the steps you have taken today to plant your seeds as for tomorrow’s English lesson, you will be having a go at writing/drawing the steps you have taken.

Music:

Today for music, I would like you watch the video (see link below) where Mr Hall will be teaching you our African Song. See if you can remember any of the words or actions, have fun!

Mental Health Week Activity:

Today we are going to spend some time practising our mindfulness breathing and learn how to keep ourselves calm and relaxed. This is a good tool to help children when they are feeling anxious, worried or nervous too.
