Friday 5th February 2021

English:

I would like you to watch the video below which will read the story The Tiny Seed to you.

The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle || An INSPIRING Adventure! [CC] - YouTube

When you have listened to and read the story, I would like you to write the steps you took when you planted your seeds yesterday in our topic lesson. I want you to think of the four most important parts of planting seeds. For example,

First, get a pot and soil. Then add some seeds. Next, water the seeds. Finally, wait for it to grow.

You may wish to draw pictures to show add to your sentences.

Remember to use your phonics to help you spell and write your sentences, as well as finger spaces between words, capital letters at the beginning, and a full stop at the end of each sentence.

Phonics:

Please watch the RWI video clips below about how to read Green Word Time 1.7 words and how to spell them for writing. We have placed an exercise book in your home learning packs, which will help you to write the words in so you can see your progress and hard work.

There is no spelling video today but maybe you could have a go at writing some of the words mentioned in the reading video – quiz, quit, fox, chop etc.

Maths:

Today we are going to be recapping our learning about Capacity.

I have put a variety of maths challenges all linked to Capacity that you could try at home. See how many you can do and don’t forget to send us some pictures of what you do and we can put them on the class webpage ‘Shout outs’!

  1. At the sink or in the bath, play with a selection of different-sized containers. Can you fill and empty the containers? Can you show a container that is full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty?

  2. Take one container and fill it with water, rice or pasta. Can you find another container that would hold more? Can you find a container that would hold less? Can you put the containers in order?

  3. Collect some different-sized spoons. How many different sizes have you found? How many small spoonful’s does it take to fill a cup? What happens if you use the largest spoon?

  4. Create your own magic potion recipe by adding spoonful’s of different items (such as water, squash, honey or sugar) to a cup or bowl. Can you record your recipe and show the number of spoonful’s needed?

I would also like you to log onto Numbots (See link below) and have a go at playing in Story Mode. This is a great online game for you to practice your counting, addition and subtraction skills!

RE:

Today in RE, we are going to focusing on our values and virtues for this half term, which are Grateful and Generous.

We are going to focus on the virtue of being grateful today and go on a gratitude scavenger hunt!

I would like you to find things off the photo below which will help you to feel grateful for what you have and learn how to show gratitude.

You could choose to draw and label some of the things you find and talk to an adult about why you are grateful for them.

Mental Health Week Activity:

Spend some time relaxing and take part in Cosmic Yoga where you can sit quietly and listen to the lady guide you through some mindfulness time.
