Home Learning - In the event of class / school closure

School Closure Information - January 2021

Dear Reception,

We hope you are keeping safe and well. We are sad we cannot currently see you and learn with you at school but we will be posting daily activities for you to complete at home, just like we are doing at school.

Please try and have a go at all of the daily activities that we set for you on this page but also please keep reading each day and enjoy developing your love of books! We have placed a 1000 stories book in your home learning packs for you to read and when you want it changing please return them to school and we will quarantine them and give you a new one.

We will update this page each day with activities for you to have a go at. Please also bear in mind the information that we posted previously below on this page which explains how to access Purple Mash (Mini Mash), Numbots, and the RWI phonics links.

If you have any problems, questions or would like to send me and the Reception Team your work, please either phone the school office or email me on reception@st-josephs.walsall.sch.uk.

We hope you all keep safe, have fun doing the activities and we hope to see you soon! smiley

Numbots Log in Details:      (2.2.2021)

We know that some children have had issues accessing Numbots with the usernames and passwords that are stuck in your child's school planners.

We have now reset the passwords and have emailed them out to all Reception parents. Please check your inbox for the email as you will need to make a note of the new log in details in order to access Numbots.

If you continue to have any further difficulties please do contact us on the class email - reception@st-josephs.walsall.sch.uk  and we will see what we can do help.

Talk for Writing Update:

Dear Parents/Carers,

I'm sure you are aware that we use the Talk for Writing scheme to develop the children's English reading and writing skills at St Josephs. Within Reception we complete a Talk for Writing unit each half term and this half term our key text is Handa's Surprise.

In line with the rest of the classes from Year 1 - Year 6, when we set our key text writing activities we would love you to send us photos of your work as part of our school 'Shout Out Challenges'. Please send them to the class email - reception@st-josephs.walsall.sch.uk and we will then put the photos on the website/Facebook to celebrate all the wonderful writing you are doing at home!

Keep up the hard work. We love to see the work you are doing! laugh

Take care and keep safe.

Miss Stewart & Miss Kempson

Challenge Ideas Update:

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you all so much for your feedback so far and the wonderful photos and emails we have had to our class email. They have made us smile so much, seeing all of the hard work and learning you are doing at home!

I have created a Challenge Ideas star below for you to click on and use if you feel you would like some extra fun activities and challenges to do with your children whilst at home. Please don't feel that you have to do this work, this is just an additional suggestion for those parents who feel they would like some more ideas.

As always, do what you can, have a go at all activities we are setting each day under the daily tabs below and remember to have fun! You are all working so hard, we are very proud of you. laughyes

RWI School Closure Online Reading Books

Please find below a link to the Oxford Owl website which has online eBooks for you to read with your child at home.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-pupils/pupil-home?current_page=home

When you go to log on you need to select Student and then enter the following details:

Username:  receptionstjosephs

Password: Reception                    The 'R' must be a capital letter.

Once you have logged on, you will enter the home page where you will need to select the Read Write Inc eBook Library tab. This will then take you to the RWI eBooks for you to access.

Please make sure you are only accessing the Sound Blending books  or Ditty Sheets at this stage as this is where most of the children are currently working.

RWI Phonics - Links to do at home

Here you will find a selection of hyperlinks to phonics online sessions your child can watch and complete at home. These videos introduce a sound, show picture cards beginning with that sound and help the children learn to write that sound.

There are also videos of how to support oral blending at home which will enable the children to begin to read CVC words and spell CVC words too.

This sequence of learning is how the children are taught at school so they will be familiar with the content of the videos.

Please keep checking this page as the links will be updated regularly.

Workbooks

In the event of closure, your child will bring home workbooks to complete at home.

We recommend completing one full page each day along with the other activities detailed on this page.

Your child will have a reading/phonics based book and a maths/number book. Please support your child in completing these books as they will require knowledge they have learnt at school as well new learning which will need explaining to them.

Numbots

The link below is for the interactive maths website - Numbots. This website helps to support the mathematical development of counting, addition and subtraction.

Your child has their own personal log-on details which have been placed in the front of their school planners.

The best way to play the games is in 'Story Mode' as explained in the letter sent out to you via Parent Mail.

Oak Academy

This is an online learning platform which provides a range of activities for your child to have a go at whilst at home.

We will update links to each activity we would like you to have a go at each day if your child is not able to attend school.

Purple Mash - Mini Mash

This website is used for your child to access work set by us or to access 'Mini Mash' to complete online games and activities. Your child's log on is in the front of their planner.

To access Mini Mash you will need to log into Purple Mash and then select the Mini Mash icon on the home page. You then need to click on the 'Enter Mini Mash' button. You will then be taken into Mini Mash where you can play a variety of games and activities at your leisure.

There will be 'pins' on the right hand side of your screen which contains key areas of learning that we have chosen for your child to explore. If you click on each of these you will be taken to games you can play linked to each area of learning.

On the Purple Mash home page when you log in, we may have set specific work or activities for your child to have a go at. If you click on the '2Dos' tab at the top of your page, it will bring up the activities we have set to be completed.
